My Musical Journey

I find the utmost joy in expressing myself through song.

Music has been a part of my life since childhood, and now I want to share my journey with the world. As a pianist and vocalist, I immerse myself in all genres of music. I am eternally grateful to have been raised in a supportive immigrant household, where my passion for singing was not only encouraged, but celebrated.

From taking piano lessons and singing in school and church to attending All-State Chorus and directing my own choir, I've grown as a musician. On my blog, I document both the exciting events (concerts and other performances) and the more mundane moments (auditions and practices).

As my repertoire expands, I will add more to my portfolio. It will include recordings of art songs and arias by composers such as Mozart, Handel, and Fauré. You might also find covers of contemporary pop songs and Vietnamese bolero music.

My STEM Journey

Growing up alongside a sister with cerebral palsy, I’d always envisioned myself working in the medical field to help kids like her.

In 9th grade, I began volunteering at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta as a Summer VolunTEEN. I'm also an Intern Medical Assistant at a family clinic that serves the local Vietnamese and Hispanic population.

In Fall of 2023, I had the amazing opportunity to do research at Emory University with Dr. Daniel Reines. We studied the yeast protein TIF4631, which exhibited similar attributes (namely, the propagation of abnormally folded proteins) as other prion-forming proteins–such as those involved in common human neurodegenerative diseases, like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

This transformative experience informed my desire to become a physician-scientist, aiding in the translation of research from wet labs to hospitals. As the summer approaches, I look forward to getting back in the lab.

What You’ll Find on my Website

Here, I’ve compiled my two interests into one place. You can explore my repertoire by looking at my portfolio, or check out my interview series, “Against All Odds,” where I spotlight first-generation PhD students who are making a difference in their respective fields. Other blog posts might dive into amusing anecdotes from teaching kids’ choir, updates on auditions and projects, or any random ideas that pop up during those late-night thought sessions—you know the ones.

More About Me

When I’m not perfecting my Italian vowels or watching YouTube videos about the history of gene editing, you might find me cheerleading for the Varsity football team or planning a school event as Vice President of Student Council. I also dabble in baking Vietnamese desserts and writing articles for another blog, Teens in Healthcare, dedicated to health and science. Find it here.
